Short-Range / Ultra Lightweight 4D X-Band FMCW AESA Radar

The HADES HAWK Radar is an ultra-lightweight and rapidly deployable 4D short-range surveillance radar, developed for expeditionary Counter-UAS operations and distributed air surveillance missions. Weighing less than 15 kg, the system is optimised for rapid deployment on fixed sites, mobile platforms, temporary installations and telecom infrastructure.

The system is designed for the detection and tracking of low-flying, slow-moving, and small aerial targets, including FPV drones, micro-UAVs, loitering munitions, and other low-signature targets. Thanks to its 4D radar architecture, HAWK delivers precise information on range, direction, altitude, and speed, enabling operators to respond quickly to emerging threats and changing operational conditions.

With continuous situational awareness and early warning, the HAWK radar enables operators to respond rapidly to a dynamic threat environment, whilst maintaining an accurate and continuously updated air picture.

HAWK radar for Counter-UAS and drone detection

Within short-range Counter-UAS operations, the HAWK radar is optimised for the detection of small, slow-moving, and low-flying targets that are often difficult for conventional surveillance radars to distinguish from background noise. The system's 4D tracking capability enhances target localisation, trajectory analysis, and the differentiation between actual threats, birds, and environmental clutter.

The system is designed for infrastructure-independent deployment and can function on battery and solar power configurations. This enables long-duration surveillance missions in remote and harsh operational environments without reliance on external power or network supplies.

Operational architecture

The HAWK radar has been developed as a standalone sensor node. Thanks to integrated local command and control functionalities, the system can operate fully autonomously, enabling rapid standalone deployment in locations without existing sensor or command and control infrastructure.

Within HDS FUSION, the radar functions as a forward detection layer within a distributed sensor network. Multiple HAWK systems can jointly achieve seamless short-range surveillance coverage, where each sensor node delivers high-quality 4D track information for multidomain situational awareness and a joint Common Operational Picture (COP).

Integration & interfaces

Built to an open architecture philosophy, the HAWK radar easily links with third-party effectors, EO/IR sensors, and command and control systems. Within a layered Counter-UAS architecture, HAWK provides initial radar detection, after which targets can be verified by passive RF sensors or EO/IR systems. This allows operators to move from detection to identification and response within a single integrated operational chain.

The system supports deployment within national and NATO-compliant air surveillance and air defence networks.
