MUSON LR OPTICAL SYSTEM
LONG-RANGE THERMAL HYBRID PTZ CAMERA
The HADES MUSON LR is a long-range electro-optical (EO/IR) observation system for the detection, identification and tracking of aerial, land and maritime targets. Developed by Opticoelectron and integrated within HADES' Sensing & Surveillance portfolio, the system combines a cooled MWIR thermal camera, a high-definition daylight camera and an integrated laser rangefinder within a single stabilised PTZ platform.
This provides the MUSON LR with reliable situational awareness in all light and weather conditions, enabling operators to detect, classify, and track long-range targets while maintaining high image quality. Designed for continuous operation in harsh environments, the system supports long-range surveillance, force protection, border security, coastal surveillance, and critical infrastructure protection.
MUSON LR as EO/IR identification layer
Within the HDS FUSION ecosystem, the MUSON LR fulfils a role that no radar or RF sensor can: visual confirmation. Where radar and passive RF detect and locate a target, the MUSON LR provides the imagery, allowing operators to positively identify that target. The cooled MWIR channel performs in complete darkness and through smoke or fog, while the daylight camera offers maximum detail in good visibility, and the laser rangefinder determines the exact distance to the target.
Operational architecture
Within HDS FUSION, the MUSON LR acts as the optical identification layer, complementing HAWK, EAGLE, and passive RF sensor systems. Following detection by radar or RF, the system can be automatically cued, a cue-on-detection principle, to provide visual confirmation, target classification, and sustained tracking of drones, aircraft, vehicles, and personnel. This allows operators to move from initial detection to positive identification within a single integrated operational picture, reducing false alarms and accelerating decision-making.
Commitment & integration
The MUSON LR can be deployed on fixed towers, observation posts, vehicles, mobile platforms, and mast-mounted surveillance networks. Built to an open architecture philosophy, the system seamlessly integrates with command and control systems, radar networks, sensor fusion environments, and third-party security infrastructures.
